Potential clients often ask me about the difference between temporary assistants and our remote assistants. It’s a question, I’m very happy to answer. While both are more cost-effective than a full-time, in-house PA, there are some clear differences between the two – even when the temp is working remotely. For me, it comes down to four main categories: loyalty, management, training and skills.
Ever heard the one about the temp worker pining for a full-time job? What about the temp worker that’s lured away by a ‘better’ proposition? Temporary workers are exactly what they say on the tin. On the one hand, agencies can only place a temp with a company, if that temp is available and not contracted elsewhere. On the other, many temporary workers are looking to transfer into the permanent world. An executive, therefore, cannot guarantee that the temp they get will be the same person as before.
Our remote assistants (Fyxers) work full-time for FYXER. They are contracted to us and, as such, available to you as and when you need their assistance – be it a few hours per day, per week or per month. In other words, you won’t have to invest time and effort translating your preferences to an assistant only to find they are unobtainable the next time you need them.
Temps are usually provided by an agency, but it is the executive who is responsible for ensuring tasks are carried out. Each time, an executive will need to set targets and goals. An executive will need to manage a temp’s work schedule and evaluate their performance. This can be especially time-consuming, if the temp is hired on a daily basis.
Fyxers, conversely, are self-managing. Being full-time employees of FYXER, they have their own management chain – with each team lead setting out monthly KPIs and conducting regular reviews of their work. Fyxers are masters of their own time and will organise their daily routine around yours.
Training and on-boarding are unavoidable in the temp game. No matter a temporary assistant’s skill level, an executive will have to set aside time to explain a task before it is assigned. While not only inefficient, clients have said it can be particularly frustrating given the varying ability of temp workers.
